G’day my fellow blog readers. My name is Paul. I’m sure that you are all familiar with my awesome mate Jace, and I’m sure that you also know that he is off on a massive adventure in Japan (jealous much :O ). Well, just between you and me, I think that he thought he could get rid of me just by travelling to Japan, well my friends, I think not!! I have a flight booked to take me to Japan! Ok… it’s not *that* much of a surprise for Jace, as I consulted him before booking, just in case he was not going to be *home* (that could have been awkward).  Anyway, I shall be continuing to write a blog about my own adventures – both in the lead up to, and while actually in Japan – to document what is going to be an awesome-o trip!

Ok so here’s the plan! (Although a bit rough) Both Jace and I have Uni holidays over the Christmas period. Jace had planned to go travelling during his holidays, anyway, so I suggested that I come over there as well and that we could do the whole travelling/touristy thing together. We both thought this would be an awesome idea, but to be honest, I wasn’t sure that I would be able to get the funds to have a half-decent time… well thanks to the ATO (Aussie Tax Office) I received a nice little refund and hey presto… I now have adequate funds… woohoo! Ok now the reality of it starts to set in, I will be missing my 4th ‘family’ Christmas in a row, and I don’t think Mum is too keen on that, and will be missing New Years here in Australia. But Christmas in another country (New Zealand doesn’t count!) and of all countries Japan will be remarkable while celebrating New Years in Japan will be so insane.

Ok so the deal for the trip is as follows:

We will leave Osaka and travel North up the East coast until we reach Tokyo ready for New Years. We will then travel up to Hokkaido, where we will bask in the freezing cold mountains… then we will head back down the west coast until we reach Osaka once again. Here’s a stolen image (Thanks Annie) showing our major stops during the trip:

Skeleton Outline of Trip

Ok so there is just over a month until I go (I leave on the 24th December) and there is plenty that I need to do:

  • Sort out Backpack (one of the proper ‘backpacker’s ones)
  • Sort out some warm clothes, as I’m told by a reliable source that it is starting to get extremely cold over there.

Ok….. So not so much of a massive list, but I’m sure that I have forgot something!

Oh yeah, not to forget:

  • Sort out Global Roaming (or something equivalent) on my phone
  • Sort out my bank card and currency charge/rate (thanks Jace)

So I will be continuing the blog as the date gets closer, while also preparing to document the actual trip, I will also introduce my good friend ‘Guido’ (a part time waiter in an Italian restaurant) in my next instalment.

Cheers for now.

Paul
